About the STAR Program 2017-11-27T14:25:16+00:00

“I wanted a place where I could have fun with other adoptees, but not have to talk about adoption all the time…” -Davon, 12

The STAR (Strong, Tough and Resilient) program is a celebration of the adoptee experience. The group mentoring model creates a supportive and affirming place to explore identity with those of similar backgrounds and experiences while having fun and developing relationships that can last a lifetime. Through monthly STAR activities, youth adoptees find support, guidance, and friendship of others, while adult adoptees have the chance to explore their narrative and empower the next generation of adoptees.

Amara STAR is part of the Amara Post-Adoption Program

For Mentors – what it takes

Are you an adoptee? Do you want to support adopted youth? Do you live in the Seattle/Tacoma area? Are you are over 21 years old? Will you make a one-year commitment to the program? If so, please apply!

For Adopted Youth – what it takes

Are you an adoptee?  Would you like to meet other adoptees? Are you at least 11 years old? Do you enjoy activities like sports, arts & crafts, cooking, going to a movie, participating in a flash mob, attending a concert or volunteering? If so, join us!

For Parents – your questions

Adoptive parents of youth will be offered concurrent programming during mentorship outings. To foster peer-to-peer sharing of experiences, our Family Support Specialist will facilitate adoption-specific discussions and encourage parents to build their own strong community! Please read through some of our Frequently Asked Questions below or reach out to us at postadopt@amaraputskidsfirst.org.
