About the STAR Program 2018-08-14T12:15:15+00:00

“I wanted a place where I could have fun with other adoptees, but not have to talk about adoption all the time…” -Davon, 12

The STAR (Strong, Tough and Resilient) program is a celebration of the adoptee experience. We know that being with others of a shared identity is powerful! Through group mentorship, participants have an opportunity to form a healthy adoptee identity. Through monthly STAR activities, youth adoptees find support, guidance, and friendship of others. Amara STAR is part of the Amara Post-Adoption Program

Adult Adoptees – become a mentor

Are you an adoptee? Do you want to support adopted youth? Do you live in the Seattle/Tacoma area? Are you are over 21 years old? Will you make a one-year commitment to the program? If so, please apply!

Adopted Youth – become a STAR

Are you an adoptee?  Would you like to meet other adoptees? Are you at least 11 years old? Do you enjoy activities like sports, arts & crafts, cooking, going to a movie, participating in a flash mob, attending a concert or volunteering? If so, join us!

For Parents – your involvement

Adoptive parents of youth will be offered concurrent programming during mentorship outings. Amara’s Family Support Specialist will facilitate adoption-specific discussions and encourage parents to build their own strong community during regularly scheduled outings.
